The last days. Europe, you have truly been amazing!

CARDV CAMERA
Day Eighty-Two: Made it to Helsinki airport – last selfie before the long 24 hour trip back home. What a truly amazing trip it has been! See you next time, europe!
CARDV CAMERA
Day Eighty-Two: Another photo of us just waiting for time to pass in Helsinki… For some reason it doesnt pass quickly when you really want it to…
CARDV CAMERA
Day Eighty-Two: Trying to kill time in Helsinki with all our bags before our 23:55 flight. We ended up just sitting in a park for a few hours and looking out for gypsies who were constantly eyeing off our bags, and collecting empty cans and bottles around us.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Eighty-Two: Ferry from Tallinn to Helsinki. Last day before the big flight home! We also witnessed what we thought at first was a blind date for some pretty funny elder Estonians or Finnish. (right corner of photo) Turned out the men were just major flirts and were hitting up all of the older ladies on the ferry and inviting them for a dance on the dancefloor… By this point Ivars was also getting very sick of me taking photos…
CARDV CAMERA
Day Eighty-One: Chicken soup – the ultimate sickness cure.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Eighty-One: Tea and cake in Tallinn at a gorgeous cafe called Must Puudel. This was unfortunately the only point of that day that I went outside of the apartment, the rest of the day I was lying in bed with a flu, and an infected eye from who-knows-what… Ivars got to explore the town a bit though while I was resting!
CARDV CAMERA
Day Eighty: Four hour bus trip from Riga to Tallinn…

Last days of the big road trip + last days in Riga

CARDV CAMERA
Day Seventy-Nine: Fancy cocktails and a cheese platter at Hotel Gutenbergs with a gorgeous view of the rooftops of Riga Oldtown. Unfortunately it was pouring outside, but the silhouettes were still gorgeous!
CARDV CAMERA
Day Seventy-Nine: Last beer in ALA for a while… But we will be back soon!
CARDV CAMERA
Day Seventy-Nine: Found some very gourmet latvian chips – chantarelle flavoured!
CARDV CAMERA
Day Seventy-Nine: Went to Roberts Bookstore and exchanged a book for a glass of wine – saving money at its finest!
CARDV CAMERA
Day Seventy-Nine: Last day in Riga – had to get a photo of the gorgeous Opera House while still here.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Seventy-Eight: Back in Riga. Decided to go to Leningrad pub to see some local latvian punk-metal bands play.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Seventy-Seven: Last beer in Berlin at a hipster beer garden on the way back to returning our bikes.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Seventy-Seven: Graffiti of Berlin.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Seventy-Seven: We hired bikes and did a bit of a bike ride up to a dumpling place about 4km from Alexanderplatz – we hadnt had dumplings in nearly 3 months, so it was super satisfying! However, we ordered chinese cabbage expecting to get it with oyster sauce like in Australia, but instead we got white cabbage mixed with sweet chilli sauce – wasn’t too bad though!
CARDV CAMERA
Day Seventy-Six: We arrived in Berlin at our hostel called Sunflower Hostel, which was right around the corner from the East Side Gallery, as well as amongst quite a dodgy, grungy area. We decided to go get some dinner on the local food street around the corner.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Seventy-Six: Ivars trying to be Wagner.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Seventy-Six: Woolworth ended up being a great find – basically like a Kmart of Europe! We bought 1 euro sunglasses, 1 euro cokes, and a 1 euro bottle of spirits. The spirits were pretty dodgy though, and we ended up using it to clean our car windows before returning it to our car rental place…
CARDV CAMERA
Day Seventy-Six: We found a shop called Woolworth, and were so confused… So we decided to go check it out.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Seventy-Six: A delicious fresh redcurrant and lemon ice-cream to cool down on the 30 degrees day.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Seventy-Six: In Bayreuth, at the opera house where Wagner debuted some of his operas.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Seventy-Six: Trip from Munich to Berlin – on the way we stopped at a small town called Bayreuth.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Seventy-Five: We finally made it to Munich – and what better place to spend the warm summer evening than at a biergarten at Englischer Garten.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Seventy-Five: A view from the catatombs that we visited where Mozart’s sister was buried, as well Haydn’s brother.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Seventy-Five: We walked into a gorgeous church, and somebody was playing the organ upstairs – it was such a truly remarkable and epic sound, and a free concert!
CARDV CAMERA
Day Seventy-Five: We came across a massive shop full of decorations of all colours, styles, and themes. Absolutely marvelous! There were so many beautifully painted egg shells- we had to be very careful not to knock them over!
CARDV CAMERA
Day Seventy-Five: At Mozart’s birthplace, and where he spent the first few years of his life.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Seventy-Five: The most well known street of Salzburg – Getreidegasse.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Seventy-Five: On the way to Munich we stopped off in Salzburg, Austria. We both absolutely loved it and ended up spending 4 hours there instead of the 2 hours that we had intended. Here’s some of the beautiful houses that were built into the mountains – so magical!
CARDV CAMERA
Day Seventy-Five: The beautiful drive from Slovenia to Germany, through the absolutely gorgeous Austrian alps.

The Croatian coast + Plitvička Jezera + Lake Bled

CARDV CAMERA
Day Seventy-Four: Another one of Ivars ‘artistic’ photos. Slovenia has been absolutely gorgeous. Next stop – Munich!
CARDV CAMERA

CARDV CAMERA
Day Seventy-Three: Beers with a view of Lake Bled.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Seventy-Three: We got back to Bled and rode around Lake Bled and saw so many gorgeous views of the church and alps!
CARDV CAMERA
Day Seventy-Three: Made it to the end of the track!
CARDV CAMERA
Day Seventy-Three: Another photo from the beautiful Vintgar Gorge.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Seventy-Three: We rode to the Vintgar Gorge, which was quite a difficult ride up the mountain, however, most definitely worth it – gorgeous views!
CARDV CAMERA
Day Seventy-Three: Morning coffees right next to Lake Bled and planning out our bike route for the day.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Seventy-Two: Warmed up our evening a little with a nice dinner right near the hostel we were staying at in the town of Lesce, about 4km from Bled.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Seventy-Two: Goodbye Croatia, Hello Slovenia – we were welcomed with a massive rainstorm while driving the Slovenian roads up and down the mountains.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Seventy-One: When we came back to the main entrance, there were some local Croatians in their traditional costumes dancing and singing some of their traditional folk songs and dances.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Seventy-One: Just another photo of the beautiful lakes and waterfalls at Plitvičke. So many gorgeous shades of green and blue!
CARDV CAMERA
Day Seventy-One: Some of the beautiful waterfalls of Plitvičke Lakes National Park.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Seventy-One: After nearly two hours of waiting in line for tickets, we finally got in to see the beautiful Plitvičke Jezeri. A bit too many tourists for our liking, but still beautiful nature, and smashed an 8km walking track!
CARDV CAMERA
Day Seventy: Our accommodation for two nights… A B&B owned by a Croatian family that spoke very little English in a tiny town called Krasno Polje. When we arrived, we were given a welcoming shot of their local liqueur. The dinner was also delicious – all homemade, even the fries!
CARDV CAMERA
Day Seventy: Saying our goodbyes to the beautiful Croatian coast with a stunning view of some Croatian islands before heading back into the centre of Croatia for more adventures.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Seventy: Another beautiful Croatian beach in a small town which I don’t remember the name of…
CARDV CAMERA

CARDV CAMERA
Day Sixty-Nine: More beautiful beaches and blue skies.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Sixty-Nine: The second largest town on Vis island called Korčula– definitely coming back here again, so gorgeous!
CARDV CAMERA
Day Sixty-Nine: We hired a moped for the day and explored nearly all of the island – was so much fun, and so easy to get around!
CARDV CAMERA
Day Sixty-Nine: On the ferry on the way to the island of Vis for a day trip.

Croatia – Part One

CARDV CAMERA
Day Sixty-Eight: And finishing another day with this beautiful view from our apartment.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Sixty-Eight: Trying out local Croatian cuisine – deep fried whitebait.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Sixty-Eight: Gorgeous purple flowers on the beautiful buildings of Split.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Sixty-Eight: On our day trip to the city of Split we visited an old Roman mausoleum and the temple of Jupiter.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Sixty-Seven: After a hard day of relaxing by the beach and drinking cocktails, we had to hike back up to our apartment… A bit dehydrated, and in 30 degrees weather.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Sixty-Seven: Cocktails by the beach in Podstrana – now this is what I call a holiday!
CARDV CAMERA
Day Sixty-Seven: Such a beautiful sight – grapes, olives, peaches, pomegranates, and figs growing in all our neighbours backyards and frontyards! So exotic!
Screen Shot 2016-08-16 at 1.04.31 am
Day Sixty-Six: Our Airbnb host surprised us with a bottle of homemade cherry liqueur made with cherries from their own garden – so lovely!
Screen Shot 2016-08-16 at 1.03.40 am
Day Sixty-Six: We arrived at our apartment for the next four nights (in Podstrana, 8km from Split), and experienced this gorgeous sunset from our own balcony.
Screen Shot 2016-08-16 at 1.03.18 am
Day Sixty-Six: On the way to our next destination we visited a beautiful town called Šibenik – simply cannot get over the beauty of these coastal towns as well as the crystal clear blue water and constant blue skies!
Screen Shot 2016-08-16 at 1.02.52 am
Day Sixty-Six: Remarkable Roman and Venetian ruins in all of the old town of Zadar, and such a beautiful clear blue sky!
Screen Shot 2016-08-16 at 1.02.17 am
Day Sixty-Six: Exploring the city of Zadar, and Ivars looking mighty fine with his hectic t-shirt tan…
CARDV CAMERA
Day Sixty-Five: Gorgeous sunset.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Sixty-Five: Time to relax by the beautiful Adriatic Sea!
CARDV CAMERA
Day Sixty-Five: The town at which we spent our first two nights in Croatia – a population of less than 500.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Sixty-Four: Arrived in our accommodation for the next two nights in a small town in Croatia called Rovanjska – this was the absolutely gorgeous view from our room.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Sixty-Four: First sights of the beautiful mountains.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Sixty-Four: Waiting in line for the border crossing from Slovenia to Croatia – such crazy border control, added about an hour on to our trip!
CARDV CAMERA
Day Sixty-Four: Lunch break at a rest stop in between Austria and Croatia.

Prague, Vienna and the inbetween.

CARDV CAMERA
Day Sixty-Three: And what better way to finish off the Vienna experience than with a good Schnitzel Mit Pommes Frittes!
CARDV CAMERA
Day Sixty-Three: Been seeing my surname quite a lot around here and Germany… So, thought this was appropriate.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Sixty-Three: Standing by the greatest concert hall of the world – Wiener Musikverein.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Sixty-Three: Picnic in the park in between famous sculptures of Schubert and Strauss.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Sixty-Three: The Austrian National Library.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Sixty-Three: While walking to the centre of Vienna, we came across a world music shop. Safe to say, we were in there quite a while.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Sixty-Three: Ivars trying to take some artsy photos.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Sixty-Two: We arrived in Vienna! At the weirdest apartment ever. We thought we had booked a whole apartment, but when we arrived we realised it was just a room, with a piano, a bed and car seats for a couch, about 6km from the centre of Vienna, with no WiFi… The joys of travelling…
CARDV CAMERA
Day Sixty-Two: Starting the Europe on a budget lifestyle, because we realised we spent way too much during the first two months…
CARDV CAMERA
Day Sixty-Two: The ceiling of the Sedlec Ossuary – using all parts of the human skeleton to decorate the church.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Sixty-Two: Sedlec Ossuary. Probably one of the most unusual and freakiest chapel’s you’ll ever see. A chapel decorated with around 40,000 human skeletons. I must say, I did feel a bit uneasy walking around it…
CARDV CAMERA
Day Sixty-One: Finishing off the evening at a bar in Prague’s Old Town and last drinks with Daina before we all head off in different directions around Europe for the next few weeks!
CARDV CAMERA
Day Sixty-One: Just another photo of the stunning Town Square. Couldn’t get any more magical!
CARDV CAMERA
Day Sixty-One: On the beautiful Charles Bridge. We walked across it just after sunset, and there was a duo (on accordion and violin) playing Vivaldi’s Four Seasons – such a beautiful atmosphere!
CARDV CAMERA
Day Sixty-One: One simply can’t visit Prague without trying a Trdelnik – a traditional pastry in Czech Republic.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Sixty-One: Came across a marionette shop. That had marionettes of all shapes, sizes, and races…
CARDV CAMERA
Day Sixty-One: The Town Square of Prague. Another beautiful gothic cathedral – seriously looked like it was from a fairytale!
CARDV CAMERA
Day Sixty-One: We found Daina! And enjoyed a lovely coffee before heading off to explore the rest of the city.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Sixty-One: The absolutely gorgeous Prague Castle Cathedral. Never have I loved gothic architecture this much… definitely a new found love now.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Sixty-One: Ivars’ first time on an autobahn in Germany. Fun, fun, fun! Especially in this tiny KIA we have hired out that can only hit a max of 155km/h…

Berlin!

CARDV CAMERA
Day Sixty: Open air cinema in Kreuzberg. We watched a German film called The People Vs. Fritz Bauer with english subtitles.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Sixty: Had to get some Currywurst!
CARDV CAMERA
Day Sixty: The Berlin Reichstag.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Sixty: Brandenburg Gate obligatory selfie.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Sixty: The typical Berlin scene – bikes and graffiti. We walked into the courtyard further up and found a beautiful zine shop.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fifty-Nine: Finishing off the evening in the local park nearby with some German beers and snacks. There were so many people doing the same thing, created such a nice vibe!
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fifty-Nine: We came across an agricultural co-opt called Holzmarkt just by the Spree River. Beautiful place for a break in between bike-riding.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fifty-Nine: The famous graffiti art of the kiss between Brezhnev and Honecker.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fifty-Nine: The East Side Gallery – the remains of the Berlin Wall decorated with graffiti art.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fifty-Nine: Sunday Flea Markets in Berlin.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fifty-Eight: More Berlin Nightlife.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fifty-Eight: Experiencing the Berlin nightlife with Ivars, Seb and one of Seb’s mates at an area called Kreuzberg. Drinking weinspritzer, and every now and then smelling weed from the people sitting next to us – only in Berlin…
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fifty-Eight: Finally getting our Pho fix at a Vietnamese restaurant where Seb works at. Really been missing this for the past two months!
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fifty-Eight: Exploring the city of Berlin by bike.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fifty-Eight: The remainders of the Berlin Wall. This is how Berlin used to look like when the wall divided West and East Berlin.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fifty-Eight: Flight to Berlin with Ryanair. Absolutely no leg-room.. Oh the joys of cheap flights.

Last days of the internship, an interview on Latvian radio, and a short trip to Sigulda

CARDV CAMERA
Day Fifty-Seven: After being pretty regular train-catchers in Latvia for the past two months, we were surprised to get on such a modern-looking train for once! It seemed like such a luxury in comparison to the other trains we’d been on!
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fifty-Seven: The beautiful view of the forest and Turaidas Pils from one of the look-outs we walked past. Sigulda is really so stunning!
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fifty-Seven: The happy mushroom-collectors. We ended up colllecting a fair few in the end – enough for a small sauce!
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fifty-Seven: After having a little stroll along the local forest nearby with my cousins, we came across a few gailenes (chantarelles). We couldn’t just pick these ones up and stop looking, we had to collect enough for at least a beautiful fresh mushroom sauce!
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fifty-Seven: One of the best things about Latvia during summer is the amount of fresh berries they have. Such a beautiful bush of redcurrants or ‘jāņogas’ in my family’s backyard in Sigulda.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fifty-Six: Group photo with Ivars’ family who live in Ogre, who we did the bike ride with.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fifty-Six: Everybody in Ogre lining up before the city bike ride.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fifty-Six: Ogres Pilsētas Svētku riteņbrauciens. It was all good, until it started absolutely pouring…
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fifty-Five: Ivars’ last gig in Riga for the summer. Not too many people rocked up, but it was a nice bunch, and probably one of Ivars’ best performances. Brought a tear to my eye, as well as Artūrs Uškāns’.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fifty-Five: Dinner before Ivars’ last gig in Latvija this summer at Hāgenskalna Komūna – really good food, in a beautiful Latvian style!
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fifty-Five: Interview at Latvijas Radio for the show ’21.gs. latvietis’ with Ansis Bogustovs. Fun experience!
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fifty-Four: Caught up with old family friends Linda and Gerds. Gerds was the lovely person who offered us his apartment to stay at while we were in Riga. We ate dinner at a lovely Italian restaurant called Casa Nostra on Elizabetes iela.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fifty-Four: Last day of the internship at Draugiem Group. Photo of me and my main co-workers for the past 6 weeks in one of the conference rooms called ‘Tropi’.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fifty-Three: The planning begins.. Finally we decided it was time to book car rentals and start looking up accommodation for the continuation of our Europe trip.

Latgale, Lithuania and Poland

CARDV CAMERA
Day Fifty-Two: We had a beautiful feast at my godmother Linda and her family’s place in Līči, just outside Rīga. Such a lovely way to finish our short 5-day trip!
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fifty-Two: The sheep at the zoo started ganging up on Ivars because he had food. After that, Ivars got punched in the balls by a ram, and somehow I happened to capture the exact moment it was happening. Oh, Europe…
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fifty-Two: This is how close we were able to get to the brown bears at the zoo. People were literally feeding them by throwing carrots through the gaps of this cage. Ridiculous.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fifty-Two: While driving from Kaunas back to Riga we came across this zoo. It was a zoo literally on the side of the highway, where you could feed deers, bears, kangaroos, goats, sheep and many more. Very odd combination of animals, but hey definitely something to tick off the bucket list – we have now fed carrots to deer and bears and kangaroos in Lithuania..?
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fifty-Two: Kaunas Castle.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fifty-One: After exploring the forest, we drove back up to Lithuania and stayed the night in Kaunas. We finished off the evening with a bottle of Pinot Grigio and chicken wings. What more could you want!
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fifty-One: One of the oldest oaks in forest – 450 years old.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fifty-One: We followed a path down a forest road and ended up in the protected area of the forest, where apparently we weren’t allowed to go without a guide. We went anyway, but didn’t get very far, because the forest got very dense, and there were all sorts of eery sounds surrounding us. In the five minutes we were there though, we saw many poisonous mushrooms, birds that were making really interesting birdcalls, and a red european squirrel.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fifty-One: Bison warning sign! That was unfortunately the closest we got to seeing a bison in the wild…
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fifty-One: Ivars finally saw the bisons, and looked like an over-excited little boy.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fifty-One: We explored the forest by bike, and ended up doing about 20km. The sun was peaking through, however, the forest was still rather cold, and full of mozzies that started biting us as soon as we stopped riding – just to add to all the mozzie-bites we already had.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fifty-One: Białowieża Forest. A primeval forest that has never been cut down, ever. The forest is home to hundreds of bisons, deer, squirrels and many other animals. It really was so beautiful!
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fifty: What seemed like the only place that people ate out at in the town we were staying at for the night – Hajnowka. Nobody spoke English in the town, not even the lady at the front desk of our motel, so we had to somehow communicate with hand gestures and attempts at Polish…
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fifty: Stopover at some bar/cafe where we tried out the local Žubr beer. And Ivars trying to be a bison..? Or just going a little crazy from all the driving we had been doing.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fifty: Next stop – Poland. Ivars got used to driving the manual car pretty quickly, and was already starting to drive like a local – overtaking cars and everything!
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fifty: Quiches and coffees for breakfast at a cafe just around the corner from the place we were staying at. The coffee was delish!
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fourty-Nine: The corridors of the building we stayed in. The apartments were so tiny that people were drying their clothes out on drying racks in the corridors.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fourty-Nine: Enjoying a Hemp Beer at Jovaru Šnekutis – a Lithuanian pub. We got a bit carried away with all the Vilnius pubs and bars, that we realised we hadn’t had dinner yet and it was already 10pm… We then realised that by this time most food places are closed. Luckily, about half an hour later and after getting absolutely soaked by the rain, we came across an Italian place that was still offering late night pizzas.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fourty-Nine: Vilnius. Ȧčiū in Lithuanian means thankyou.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fourty-Nine: Our accomodation for the night. A soviet-style building about 10min walk from Vilnius Old Town. The apartment we stayed in was modern and gorgeous. But it was basically the only renovated one in the whole block – looking at the rest made us feel like we’d gone back about 60 years in time.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fourty-Nine: Enjoying some Šmakauks before hitting the pubs of Vilnius.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fourty-Nine: Only in Latgale can you buy Šmakauks (Moonshine) for 7 euros from a bar, in a bottle that says ‘Cherry Taste Syrup’. (totally illegal) Who knows what the alcohol content in it is, but it is definitely a damn lot…
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fourty-Eight: Ivars led a sing-along evening at the Diaspora Latvian Teachers Conference. Everyone was singing along and really enjoying themselves! Only problem was that there were ridiculous amounts of mozzies, so we all got eaten alive.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fourty-Eight: The beautiful Latvian countryside.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fourty-Eight: Enjoying a beautiful, refreshing swim on a 27 degrees day at Rāznas Ezers, in Latgale.

Out and about in Riga again

CARDV CAMERA
Day Fourty-Seven: Continued on with Lara at KKC once again – becoming regulars there now! Then finished off the night at Piens.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fourty-Seven: Anita and Lara are visiting Latvija for a few days, so we took them to our local Japanese place to enjoy some good detox food.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fourty-Six: Caught up with an old primary school friend Kerija who I hadn’t seen for about 8 years. Its really so lovely to reconnect with old friends, and somehow still have so much to talk about!
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fourty-Six: Miit Coffee on Lāčplēša iela. We orded the lunch meal of the day, which was fully vegan, but it tasted absolutely delicious! Would definitely recommend.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fourty-Five: Ivars’ biggest gig he’s ever played at. At ALA in Vecrīga. It ended up going really well, and a whole lot of people rocked up! The night finished off with Ivars playing a few latviešu singalongs with Daila, Armands and Matiss.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fourty-Five: A while ago, Daina came across a Cat Cafe called ‘Minka’ in Āgenskalns, so Daina, Tamara, Lara and I decided to go check it out for lunch. The food was very nice, and there were about 4 cats just chilling about, so cute!

A trip to Cēsis, Ivars’ gig at Cacao and hanging out in Rīga.

CARDV CAMERA
Day Fourty-Four: Ivars met us at the autoosta back in Riga, and we went for a nice wine at the Tējas Namiņš with a beautiful view of the park and canal. Great end to the day!
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fourty-Four: While waiting for the bus back to Rīga (which we actually booked seats for in advance this time), Daina and I found a little hut full of old Latvian books and spent about half an hour reading those out loud to each other. We got a few strange looks from people…
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fourty-Four: One of the main stages of Cēsis 810 Svētki. This was when an African Drummer Band was playing.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fourty-Four: Berry Mojito with fresh avenes, jāņogas and ērkšķogas. Only in Latvia do you get a cocktail this fresh for such a cheap price!
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fourty-Four: The Hipster Area of Cēsis 810 Svētki. Delicious fresh food and cocktails.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fourty-Four: Cēsis 810 Svētki. We didn’t think the celebrations would be so massive! There were so many market stalls, and so many people, and so many concerts to check out!
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fourty-Four: On the bus to Cēsis. There weren’t anymore seats left, so we had to get standing tickets… So we sat on the steps of the bus for the whole 2 hours of the trip.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fourty-Three: Caught up with Laima and met some random Latvian from Japan, and an Indian currently studying Engineering in Latvia. Safe to say – an interesting evening!
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fourty-Three: Went to the markets to get some fresh latvian mushrooms (gailenes, baravikas and bērzlapes) and Ivars made a wild mushroom soup for dinner. We just weren’t too sure whether all the mushrooms they sold us were okay, because some looked very different to the rest… So, if at some point you don’t hear anything from me Ivars or Daina for a while, then you’ll know you can blame the Latvian mushrooms…
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fourty-Two: Ivars’ gig at CACAO. A nice cosy cafe on Hospitāļu iela offering coffees, cakes and wine. Quite a few people ended up rocking up in the end, which was really good – packed the place out!
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fourty-Two: Another hipster place that we found on the way to Ivars’ gig where we had a bit of a light dinner. DAD Cafe on Miera Iela.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fourty-Two: At a local cafe near our place for cheap lunch deals. For 5 euros we got a drink, a cabbage soup, and a main meal with chicken and vegetables and a salad. So good!
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fourty-One: Becoming regulars at The Pink Elephant concerts. This was a place called NOASS, on the other side of the Daugava, with a view of Vecrīga in the background – gorgeous!
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fourty-One: Ivars ordered the spiciest meal so far in Latvia. The dishes were delicious though! So, if you are looking for a good spicy curry in Riga, definitely check out Singhs Restaurant on Ģertrūdes iela.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fourty-One: Ivars’ attempt at a selfie before going out to dinner for our 1 year 6 months anniversary. So lame…
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fourty: Andrejs’ last night in Latvia finished off with a few wines at KKC.
CARDV CAMERA
Day Fourty: After about a month of Ivars making dinners on a regular basis, I decided to make dinner for once. Potatoes with gaileņu mērce, chicken and a fresh salad!
